Big or Effective?

I ran across this over at The Pew View. We could ask the question posed ("Do you want to be big, or do you want to be effective?") regarding the individual churches or...what about the denomination?

As the UMC conducts the business of General Conference, might we ask the same question, Do we want to maintain our bigness or do we want to be effective? Are we afraid to eliminate bloated systems and obsolete admin positions or streamline? Are we willing to say no to good things and projects (don't have an idea of any exactly) for the best...
"Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age." (Matthew 28:19-20 NASB)

Just a view from the pulpit...
